FeatFrame records your work as a time-lapse. The footage that comes out of that is yours, and this page sets out exactly what is kept, where it is kept, and what leaves your device.

Last updated 13 August 2026

Your footage stays on your device unless you are on a paid plan

The frames captured during a recording, and the time-lapse videos rendered from them, are written to your device's own storage. Exporting a video writes it to your photo library, which is also on your device.

On the free plan that is where it ends. Your frames and your videos are never uploaded to FeatFrame and never sent to a third party.

On a paid plan, FeatFrame backs the frames of each recording up to your account, so your footage survives a lost or replaced phone. Rendered videos are never uploaded on any plan. The backup is part of a paid plan and cannot be switched off separately; you can end it by moving to the free plan, or remove what has been stored by deleting the sessions or your account.

What we store on our servers

FeatFrame keeps a small amount of information on its servers so your activities and your history survive a reinstall and can follow you to another device.

Account details

If you sign up, we store your email address and your display name. Signing in is done with email, with Google, or with Apple.

Guest accounts

You can use FeatFrame with no sign-up at all. In that case a guest account is provisioned from a secret held on your device, and there is no email address or name behind it.

Activities

The activities you create: the activity name, and the unit of progress if you set one.

Session metadata

For each recording session we store the start time, the end time, the number of frames captured, the capture interval, the number of units you completed, and which activity the session belongs to. On the free plan the images themselves are never part of this.

Backed-up frames (paid plans only)

If you are on a paid plan, the frames of your recordings are stored against your account so they can be recovered later. They are held in private storage: they are not published, not shared with anyone, and not reachable by a public link. Nothing is trained on them and they are not used for anything other than giving them back to you.

If your paid plan ends, no new recordings are backed up, and the frames already stored are kept for 60 days and then deleted. If you go back to a paid plan within those 60 days, nothing is lost.

Third-party services

Firebase (Google)

Firebase handles authentication for Google and Apple sign-in, and delivers push notifications. A push notification token is sent to FeatFrame's server so we can reach your device with a notification you asked for.

PostHog

PostHog provides optional product analytics. When analytics are enabled, it records in-app events: onboarding completed, a recording started or completed, an export, paywall interactions, and which sign-in method you used. Those events are identified by your backend user id together with your email, name, and plan. Automatic error reporting is enabled, so crashes and errors are reported to PostHog as well.

PostHog also counts page views on this website, but only if you allow it. Nothing is loaded, sent or stored until you choose "Allow" on the banner, and choosing "No thanks" keeps it that way. You can change your mind at any time with the "Analytics choice" link in the footer of any page. Website page views are not linked to any account, and visiting this site does not create a profile of you.

Device permissions we ask for

  • Camera — to capture the frames that make up your time-lapse.
  • Photo library (add only) — to save exported time-lapse videos to your photo library. FeatFrame can add videos; it cannot read what is already there.
  • Notifications — optional, for reminders.

Purchases

Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. FeatFrame never sees or stores your payment details or card numbers.

Where your data is stored

The information described above is held on servers operated via Heroku and AWS in the United States. Backed-up frames are held in private object storage operated by Cloudflare.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from Settings in the app, or by emailing us at [email protected] from the address on the account.

Deleting your account removes your account details, your activities, all of your session metadata, and any frames backed up under a paid plan. The copies on your own device are unaffected: the frames in the app and the videos in your photo library stay on your phone until you delete them yourself.

Children's privacy

FeatFrame is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us at [email protected] and we will delete the account and its data.

Changes to this policy

If our data practices change, we will update this page and change the date at the top of it. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
